The ten best foods for pregnancy

Eggs

"It's amazing what you get in one egg, and for only about 90 calories," says Elizabeth Ward, dietitian and author of Expect the Best, Your Guide to Healthy Eating Before, During, and After Pregnancy.

In addition to more than 12 vitamins and minerals, eggs contain lots of quality protein, which is essential for pregnancy. "Your baby's cells are growing at an exponential rate, and every cell is made of protein," Ward explains. "Plus, as a pregnant woman, you have your own protein needs."
Eggs are also rich in choline, which promotes your baby's overall growth and brain health, while helping prevent neural tube defects. Some even contain omega-3 fats, important for both brain and vision development. (Brands that have omega-3 fats will probably state so on the label.)
As for eggs' bad rap for cholesterol? Not warranted, says Ward. It turns out that eating saturated fat does much more damage to your cholesterol level than eating the cholesterol naturally found in food. And while eggs are high in cholesterol, they're also relatively low in saturated fat, with about one and a half grams per egg.
"Healthy women with normal blood cholesterol can consume one to two eggs a day as part of a balanced diet low in saturated fat," Ward says.
Need more convincing? Eggs are cheap, easy, quick, and versatile. When you're too exhausted to cook a full meal, a couple of hard boiled or scrambled eggs are just the ticket.

Salmon

Not only is salmon brimming with high-quality protein, says Ward, but it's an exceptionally good source of omega-3 fats. And unlike swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish, and shark, salmon has low amounts of methylmercury, a compound that can be harmful to your baby's developing nervous system.
Just remember that even for salmon and other low-mercury fish, such as canned light tuna and pollock, the FDA recommends eating no more than 12 ounces per week to avoid ingesting too much mercury.

Beans

Navy beans, lentils, black beans, pinto beans, chickpeas…..there are so many to choose from. "Beans contain the most fiber and protein of all the vegetables," says Ward.
You already know protein is important during pregnancy, but you may not yet realize that fiber could become your new best friend during the nine-month wait. In pregnancy, the gastrointestinal tract slows down, putting you at risk for constipation and hemorrhoids. Fiber can help prevent and relieve these problems.
In addition, says Ward, food that contains fiber tends to be nutrient-rich. This is certainly true of beans, which are good sources of iron, folate, calcium, and zinc.

Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes get their orange color from carotenoids, plant pigments that are converted to vitamin A in our bodies, says Ward.
Although consuming too much "preformed" vitamin A (found in animal sources, such as liver, milk, and eggs) can be dangerous, carotenoids are a different story. They're converted to vitamin A only as needed, so there's no need to restrict your consumption of vitamin A-rich fruits and veggies.
Sweet potatoes are also a great source of vitamin C, folate, and fiber. And like beans, they're inexpensive and versatile. "Cook extra and save them to slice up later as a snack," Ward suggests.

Popcorn and other whole grains

Yes, you read that right. Popcorn is a whole grain. "People love it when I tell them that!" says Ward. Whole grains are important in pregnancy because they're high in fiber and nutrients, including vitamin E, selenium, and phytonutrients – plant compounds that protect cells.
Don't stop at popcorn though. There are lots of other whole grains out there, from oatmeal to whole grain bread to barley. Fluffy, nutty-tasting quinoa is one of Ward's favorites. "Whole grain quinoa is easy to make and is very high in nutrients, particularly protein, making it a superfood in and of itself," she says.

Walnuts

Don't like fish or eggs, but still want to get those omega-3s which are so important for your baby's brain growth? Try walnuts, suggests dietitian Kate Geagan, author of Go Green, Stay Lean. "Walnuts are one of the richest sources of plant-based omega-3s," she says. "A handful of walnuts is a great choice for an on-the-run snack or an addition to a salad."

Greek yogurt

Greek yogurt typically has twice the protein of regular yogurt, making it one of Geagan's favorite pregnancy foods. And any kind of yogurt is a great source of calcium, which is vital in a pregnancy diet. If you don't take in enough calcium, the limited amount you have will go to your baby, says Geagan, depleting the calcium in your bones and teeth.
"The goal during pregnancy is to make sure you provide everything your baby needs without sacrificing your own health and nutrition," she explains. "Calcium will help keep your own bones intact while laying down a healthy skeleton for your baby."

Dark green, leafy vegetables

Spinach, kale, Swiss chard, and other green leafy vegetables are loaded with vitamins and nutrients, including vitamins A, C, and K, as well as the all-important folate. They've also been found to promote eye health, Geagan says.

Lean meats

Meat is an excellent source of high-quality protein, says dietitian Karin Hosenfeld of North Dallas Nutrition. "Look for lean meats with the fat trimmed off," she says. "When buying red meat in particular, look for cuts that are around 95 to 98 percent fat-free." Beef and pork stand out among meats because in addition to protein, they contain choline, says Ward.
Don't eat deli meats or hot dogs, though, unless they're heating until steaming hot. There's a small risk of passing on bacteria and parasites from the meat such as Listeria monocytogenes toxoplasma, or salmonella to your baby, says Mayo Clinic obstetrician Mary Marnach.

Colorful fruits and veggies

Eating a variety of green, red, orange, yellow, purple, and white fruits and vegetables will ensure that you and your baby get a variety of nutrients. "Each color group provides different vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants," explains dietitian Jodi Greebel, owner of Citrition, a nutrition counseling service in New York.
Hosenfeld points out another advantage of eating across the fruit and veggie spectrum: "During the later stages of pregnancy, the baby is 'tasting' the foods you eat through the amniotic fluid," she says. "So if you expose your baby to a variety of healthy fruits and vegetables in the womb, you'll increase the chance that your baby will recognize and accept those flavors later on."

Pregnancy sleep problem: Frequent urination interferes with your sleep

Why it happens

Shortly after you become pregnant, you may find yourself hurrying to the bathroom more often than usual. Why do you suddenly need to go all the time? Mostly because the amount of blood in your body increases dramatically when you get pregnant. This leads to a lot of extra fluid getting processed through your kidneys and ending up in your bladder.
You may also have to pee more often during the night, especially if you have a lot of swelling in your lower limbs and feet. When you lie down, your legs are level with your upper body. This makes it easier for your blood to carry some of the fluid you retained during the day to your bladder – now that it doesn't have to work against gravity.
Another big factor: At some point your growing uterus may start pressing on your bladder, which can make you feel like you need to pee even more often. This symptom will probably continue or even get worse throughout your pregnancy.

What you can do about it

These tips may help:
  • Cut down on nighttime trips to the bathroom by drinking plenty of fluids during the day but limiting your intake in the hours before you go to bed.
  • Avoid coffee and tea late in the day is also a good idea.
  • When you pee, lean forward to empty your bladder more completely.
You may not be able to get much relief, though. As one mom we know puts it, "It's nature's cruel way of training you for the many nights of interrupted sleep once your baby arrives!"

Week 14 : My Fetus dah sebesar Lemon

My fetus now busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.

Dup Dap Dup Dap..

Mlm tadi i teringat kat sorang kwn.I namekan dia Nurul (bukan namer sebenar). Consider close friends jgk (maser secondary school dulu). Satu team tae kwan do ngn dia..Dulu selalu follow cerita cinta dia from blog and facebook.Last contact ngn nurul pon a week after i engage, nurul call invite majlis pertunangan dia.Nurul balik Malaysia untuk tunang, Bf dia time tu mmg tggu jer dia abes study doctor,Plan after abes study dorang nak kawen, that y before nurul final sem, dorang tunang dulu. Then maser dekat i nak kawen, i quit bz and jarang sgt buka fb..Sbb i raser dia mcm menyepi jer, mlm td i try la tgk fb dia. Terkejut giler, tgk2 profile nurul, nurul dh kawen.Lagi i terkejut, Mr Hasben dia bukan tunang dia yg dulu..Huhuhuhu..Sgt sedih..dorang couple dr sekolah.Maser form 2, that guy form 3.Maser dia study kat Ireland dulu, bf dia selalu gak ke saner jumpa dia.Family nurul pon penah bawa si bf nurul ke Hong Kong as a surprise bday present utk nurul..

Sgt sedih kan..couple bertahun2..i raser dalam 10 tahun, then bertunang and end up tak jadi kawen pon. Nurul finally kawen ngn seorang doctor jgk.Now dia and Mr Hasben duty kat Hospital Johor sesamer.

I terfikir balik, bukan semua yg kita plan, follow plan kita..Bila fikir2 balik i raser bersyukur bercinta, bertunang and berkahwin dengan orang yang samer..Dulu2 i tak nak bertunang, sbb takot dugaan bertunang yg dikaterkan sgt dasyat dan menguji kesabaran + kesetiaan kedua2 pihak.Atas kehendak ibu bapa kedua2 pihak, kami ahkirnya bertunang selama 5 bulan.Family pon mmg tak nak kami bertunang lama2.

4 bulan kami bertunang dan sebulan sebelum tarikh kami diijabkabulkan, dugaan yg maha dahsyat juga penah meguji kesetian kami.. kami plan nak bawa haluan masing2, 3 minggu sebelum kawen dah hampir2 putus tunang..(actually kami dh bersetuju utk putus tunang, tapi sehari jer, then continue balik. Dua2 berfikir masak2, fikirkan family yg sibuk buat preparation kawen kami, fikirkan hubungan kami yg dah lamer, dulu mcm2 berlaku still boleh sabar dan bertolak ansur, kenapa bila sampai date nak kawen, lagi 3 minggu tak leh nak bersabar dan bertolak ansur..Finally Mohd Adzlan Omar menyatakan walau apa pon berlaku, dia mmg nak kawen ngn Nur Syariani Ab Razak (impian dia maser mula2 kenal i 4 tahu n lepas lagi)..Mcm2 lagi dugaan kami nak berkahwin, halangan parent i, Mr Adzlan sgt sabar, 3 tahun memujuk parent i...Dan alhamdulillah, kini kami bahagia bersama..

Ya Allah Ya Tuhanku, berilah ku kebahagian bersamanya hingga ke ahkir hayat.Amin
(hope tiada lagi dugaan besar menguji kami).
I love you so much sayang!!!

How to avoid Cesarean by giving labor a chance

The truth is, many cesareans can be avoided if you just give your body a chance to work with labor. With a normal birth, there is no rush. As long as you and baby are healthy, time should not be a factor. Let your body work and do what it knows to do. Here are ways to avoid a cesarean.

Instructions

  1. Avoid elective induction of labor. Most research shows that having an elective induction increases your risk for cesarean by 50 percent. Electing to have a cesarean because you are uncomfortable, you want the baby out by the weekend to show off to company, or because it is someone's birthday are not good reasons to have major surgery.

  2. Avoid pain medications in early labor. Getting an epidural in early labor may contribute to contractions slowing down progress (dilation, effacement and station) and mocking the pattern. Try natural methods like walking, rocking, hydrotherapy and position changes to cope with the discomfort in early labor.

  3. Stay active during labor for as long as possible. This doesn't mean that you can't take breaks, but you should be moving around and changing positions. Changing positions in labor, even using hydrotherapy, allows your body and baby to work together. Movement in labor makes it easier for your baby to move and find her way into the pelvis easier. Movements like hip circling and swaying can be really beneficial.
  4. 4
Change positions even with an epidural. If you have an epidural, you can still move. While it isn't safe to get out of the bed, you can still spend some time on each side. This is considered secondary movement. The smallest of movements can still assist the baby in navigating her way through the pelvis.

  5. Empty your bladder. A full bladder can actually impede the head from coming down like it should. Even if you don't feel like you have to urinate, you should try at least once an hour. If you have an epidural, you will probably have a urinary catheter, so your bladder should stay empty.
  6. 6
Relax. As hard as it may seem to do this, try. Keep your jawbone loose. It has been said that an open jaw has a direct connection to an open cervix. Use comfort measures on your own or with a partner to relax into the contractions. You can use imagery, guided scripts, position changes or a birthing tub.

  7. Sleep. If you can manage to drift off between your contractions, and many women do, this will provide a wonderful advantage. Getting rest, even if it is just for a few minutes, will help keep your energy throughout labor.

  8. Listen to encouragement. It is a good idea to have people with you during your journey for physical and emotional support. Believe them when they say that you can do this. Labor is in some form, mind over matter. Yes, it is certainly a challenge, but your body will react how your mind tells it to.

  9. Hire a doula. A doula is a professional person who gives you complete emotional, physical and educational support. She is familiar with natural birthing techniques and the normalcy of labor and birth. She can familiarize you with the risks and benefits of different procedures throughout your labor, and can offer ideas and measures that you can try to eliminate your discomfort. Doulas support Dad, too, so that he can be where you need him to be while your other needs are being met.

  10. Push with your body's natural urge. Instead of purple pushing (holding your breath and pushing down), follow your body' s urge to push. If you are going natural, this will be easier than an epidural, because you will feel the urge.

If you've had an epidural, ask the doctor to turn down your dosage once you are complete. As the feeling starts coming back, you will be able to feel how and when to push.
